Breakthrough implant from Zurich: New hope for patients with type 2 diabetes
Researchers from ETH Zurich have developed an innovative implant to manage type 2 diabetes by directly removing excess glucose from the bloodstream. This device uses an electric catalyst to convert glucose into a substance easily excreted in urine. It features a wireless power supply and a glucose monitoring system that activates the implant when glucose levels exceed a set threshold. Initial tests on diabetic mice showed promising results, including effective blood sugar control and weight loss, with no tissue damage observed. Although still in preclinical stages, this technology could revolutionize diabetes treatment by providing a drug-free alternative.
