Safety buttons and gates in schools? Barbara Nowacka: let's not pretend

The Polish Ministry of Education plans to amend the Education Law to enhance school safety measures, including allowing teachers to check for dangerous items. Minister Barbara Nowacka emphasized that teachers currently lack legal tools to act in emergencies. She discussed the potential implementation of safety buttons in schools, noting that while some schools have adopted them, a nationwide mandate may not be feasible. Regarding security gates, she acknowledged their use in some schools but stressed the importance of trusting teachers to manage safety effectively. Nowacka argued that schools should be places of trust and that teachers are well-equipped to handle crisis situations.
