Puente sees it as "normal" that the LZB has fallen 170 times in the last year on the Madrid-Sevilla line

Transport Minister Óscar Puente reported that the signaling system for high-speed trains on the Madrid-Sevilla line has failed 170 times this year, leading to train stoppages. A recent failure resulted in a tragic collision that killed 69 people. Puente, who will not resign, stated that these failures are within normal operational limits for European rail systems. He acknowledged that the signaling issues particularly affect Iryo trains, which may require investment for adaptation. The ERTMS system, recently installed, is expected to be operational by January 2027, a year behind schedule.
