Putin orders Russian data centers to reserve capacity to assist state IT infrastructure
President Putin has mandated that Russian data centers reserve 10% of their capacity for state IT needs, allowing quick access for government agencies. This decree follows ongoing drone attacks by Ukraine targeting Russian data centers. A new government commission will oversee the reserved capacity, which must be available within 24 hours of notification. The Digital Development Ministry has suggested building underground data centers for protection. Recent drone strikes have targeted Yandex's data center, leading to its shutdown after multiple attacks, as part of Ukraine's retaliation for Russian strikes on its internet infrastructure.
