When working stops being worthwhile
In Portugal, full-time work no longer guarantees autonomy and stability, particularly in housing. Many workers struggle to afford basic living costs despite having jobs, leading to a paradox where low-income earners cannot access housing support due to their earnings. This situation undermines the value of work and creates a sense of injustice in society. Immigration is often blamed for the housing crisis, but it is a complex issue with multiple factors, including insufficient housing supply and slow construction processes. Addressing the crisis requires increasing housing availability, improving wages, and ensuring effective public policies. A fair society must balance individual effort with collective support, allowing workers to thrive and secure their futures.
