Rangel intends to restructure the Camões Institute in 2027
The Portuguese Foreign Minister, Paulo Rangel, announced plans to restructure the Camões Institute, which constitutes about 20% of the ministry's budget. During a parliamentary hearing regarding the 2027 State Budget, he highlighted the recent reforms in the Legal Regime for Teaching Portuguese Abroad, which have not yet been reflected in the budget. Rangel criticized deputies for spreading false information about the regime and emphasized the importance of defending Portuguese language and culture. He stated that the Camões Institute will be budgeted at 109 million euros and requires significant digital investment and better integration of language and cultural policies. Rangel described the 2027 budget as one of stability amid a deteriorating international context.
