Rankings 9th year. Fewer schools improved their average
The 2025 rankings of schools show that only private institutions dominate the top five, with significant changes from the previous year. The Externato As Descobertas in Lisbon leads the list, while the former top school, Colégio Novo da Maia, dropped to 17th place. The Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Alto in Faro improved its position to second. The overall performance of schools has improved, with 53.6% of institutions raising their average scores. However, public schools still struggle, with the best public institution being an artistic school that has also dropped in ranking. The competition for higher education access in the North is noted as a factor influencing these results. The bottom five schools remain public, with some showing slight improvements despite low averages.
