The man who opened fire near Paris on Friday attacked people with a racist motive.

The suspect in the recent shooting in France admitted to targeting individuals based on racist motives, according to the head of the French anti-terrorism prosecutor's office. The attack resulted in one death and seven injuries, including a severely wounded 12-year-old girl. The 39-year-old assailant used a WWII automatic weapon and aimed at Muslim, Arab, or African individuals in Trappes and La Verrière, which he considers Islamist areas. Police found gas canisters connected with wires in his apartment, along with a Bible, the Quran, and a copy of Mein Kampf. Prior to the attack, he settled family debts, deleted social media accounts, sold his laptop, and hid his mobile phone, which is still being searched for by authorities.
