Jordanian king promises to impose the "harshest" penalties on perpetrators of "terrorist attack"
King Abdullah II of Jordan vowed to impose the "harshest penalties" following a terrorist attack on a Greek Orthodox church in al-Karak, resulting in six deaths and 28 injuries. The attack, described as a rare assault on the Christian community, involved assailants opening fire during a funeral procession. Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya confirmed the involvement of extremists and stated that security forces are actively pursuing the attackers. The government has launched an investigation into the incident, which has shocked the local population, particularly given the rarity of such attacks in Jordan. The region is home to a small Christian community, representing 2-3% of the predominantly Muslim population.
