Record number of heatwave victims in Europe. It has never been this bad before.

A recent report from Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine reveals alarming heat-related mortality in Europe. Over 50,000 deaths occurred this summer due to extreme heat, marking the highest number since 2000. The report highlights that while older adults are most affected, around 6,000 victims were under 65. The analysis covered 854 urban areas, indicating that two-thirds of these deaths were linked to human-induced climate change. The summer heatwaves, particularly severe in late June and early July, resulted in temperatures exceeding averages by up to 12°C in some cities. The findings emphasize the urgent need to address climate change and its public health impacts.
