Record budget for 2027. "Growth for the nation"
South Korea's President Lee Jae-myung announced a budget for 2027 aimed at establishing the country as a leader in technology and AI. The budget proposes a 12.8% increase in spending, the largest annual rise in history, with significant investments in three major projects: semiconductor production hubs, data centers, and physical AI development. An additional 4.6 trillion won will fund a state-of-the-art AI model. Defense spending will also rise by 8.2%, focusing on advanced military technology. This budget is supported by record tax surpluses from tech giants like Samsung and SK Hynix, reflecting strong demand for memory chips and AI infrastructure. Furthermore, a ten-year investment plan worth 1800 trillion won aims to capitalize on the global semiconductor boom.
