Riots in Germany after youth protests, major shopping street in Frankfurt closed following looting

In Germany, protests by tens of thousands of young people escalated into riots in several cities, including Frankfurt, Cologne, and Berlin. Initially peaceful demonstrations against budget cuts in education and social services turned violent in the evening, with incidents of vandalism and clashes with police. In Frankfurt, shops were looted and windows smashed in the main shopping street, Zeil. Authorities responded with water cannons and tear gas. The Interior Minister of Hesse announced a tough stance against the rioters, linking them to left-wing extremists. Similar unrest occurred in other cities despite police restrictions on protests.
