Renfe buys 30 trains from the German Siemens for 1.218 billion to forget the Talgo fiasco: "We cannot afford new delays"

Renfe has awarded Siemens a contract for 30 new Velaro Novo high-speed trains, with an option for 10 more. This deal, worth €1.218 billion, is the largest fleet purchase by the public operator, competing against Japan's Hitachi. The new trains will reach speeds of 350 km/h, accommodate 520 passengers, and feature improvements for comfort and energy efficiency. The fleet renewal is crucial due to past issues with reliability and delays, notably with Talgo trains. The first five units are expected by February 2029, with the remaining delivered over 62 months, emphasizing the need for timely deliveries to avoid previous setbacks.
