Renovation of the Abbey of Park in Heverlee completed after nearly 15 years: "One of the largest heritage projects in Flanders"
The restoration of the Abdij van Park in Heverlee has been completed after nearly 15 years, marking one of Flanders' largest heritage projects. The project, initiated in 2004, involved a total investment of approximately 49 million euros, with significant contributions from both the city of Leuven and the Flemish government. The restoration aimed to preserve the site's historical integrity, utilizing 18th-century blueprints and traditional materials. Despite delays due to the pandemic and unexpected discoveries, the final result has been praised for its historical significance and serene atmosphere. The site is now considered one of the best-preserved abbey complexes in Western Europe.
