UN climate report, 'in 2025 record emissions, heading towards +2.6°C by the end of the century'

A UN report indicates that global greenhouse gas emissions remained at record levels in 2025, predicting a temperature rise of 2.6°C by 2100. Secretary-General António Guterres warns that current climate commitments are dangerously insufficient, emphasizing the need for immediate and drastic action. Despite potential compliance with emission reduction pledges, projections suggest temperatures could exceed pre-industrial levels by 2.6°C. The report highlights a troubling trend among major emitters, with increases in the US, Indonesia, and China, while India, Russia, and the EU show reductions. A more favorable scenario could see temperatures peak between 1.7°C and 1.8°C, requiring significant emission cuts by 2030, 2035, and 2040 to achieve this goal.
