Dominican Republic suspends activities of 24 Chinese companies for labor violations
The Dominican Republic government has suspended the operations of 24 Chinese-owned companies due to imminent threats to worker safety and integrity. Inspections of 101 establishments revealed labor rights violations, including improper dismissal practices and failure to provide mandatory rest periods. Many companies were found not to comply with regulations regarding overtime pay and the proportion of Dominican workers. The Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares, emphasized concerns over companies dismissing workers before they complete three months of service, preventing them from accruing labor rights.
