Residents in Portugal take fewer tourist trips for the first time in two years
For the first time in two years, tourism among residents in Portugal has declined, with a 1.5% drop in trips during the second quarter. Despite this decrease, international travel is on the rise, albeit with shorter stays. The National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported that residents made 5.9 million trips from April to June, with a notable decline in domestic travel. While trips within Portugal fell by 3.8%, international trips increased by 10%. Leisure remains the primary reason for travel, accounting for nearly half of all trips. Additionally, the average duration of trips has decreased, and free private accommodation has become the preferred lodging option.
