Press Review. Rising housing prices dominate newspaper front pages
Recent reports highlight a significant rise in housing prices across Portugal, with increases exceeding 20% in many areas. The latest data from the National Institute of Statistics reveals that housing prices have doubled over the past five years, affecting nearly all municipalities. Comparatively, housing costs have risen four times faster than average salaries, with the median price per square meter increasing substantially. The Greater Lisbon area saw the most significant hikes, particularly in Loures. Additionally, the median price of homes has surged by 122% over seven years, despite a decrease in transactions in the first half of this year.
