The risk of the Shamonda virus to human health in Portugal is very low, says DGS

The Directorate-General of Health (DGS) in Portugal reports a very low risk to human health from the Shamonda virus, detected in livestock. No human infections have been confirmed in Portugal, following the first case in France. The DGS is monitoring the situation and emphasizes that there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission. The virus primarily spreads among animals through insect bites. General preventive measures include using insect repellents and protective clothing. Immunocompromised individuals are advised to seek medical advice if they experience unexplained symptoms. The DGS will continue to assess the epidemiological situation and update recommendations as necessary.
