Rita Matias proposes breastfeeding room in Parliament
Deputy Rita Matias from Chega proposed the creation of a breastfeeding room in the Portuguese Parliament, emphasizing the need for a suitable space for nursing mothers. She highlighted that currently, there is no appropriate area for expressing and storing breast milk, which could hinder women's participation in politics. Matias argued that this initiative would support women in maintaining their political roles without sacrificing motherhood. She noted that similar facilities exist in many private companies and public spaces, suggesting that Parliament should set an example. Matias also explained her decision to return to work shortly after giving birth, stating that parliamentary duties differ from standard employment contracts, allowing her to balance both responsibilities.
