Russia will host the World Championships. The first such decision since the beginning of the war
Russia will host the World Weightlifting Championships in 2030, marking the first time since the invasion of Ukraine that an international federation has granted such rights. The decision was made by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Executive Committee, which also announced locations for other championships from 2028 to 2030. Moscow last hosted the World Championships in 1983. The IWF has lifted restrictions on Russian and Belarusian athletes, allowing them to compete again under their national flags. This decision reflects a gradual return of Russia to international sports competition.
