RSI reaches less than 4% of foreign citizens in Portugal
Foreign citizens in Portugal account for less than 4% of the total beneficiaries of the Social Insertion Income (RSI), according to the Secretary of State for Social Security. Filipa Lima emphasized that 96 out of every 100 RSI beneficiaries are Portuguese citizens. Currently, there are about 6,500 foreign recipients among approximately 190,000 total beneficiaries, with one-third being Ukrainian citizens. Lima clarified that foreign citizens are not a problem for the RSI or the upcoming Unified Social Benefit (PSU). She also noted that foreign recipients must have been residents for over a year to qualify for the RSI. Additionally, there are around 914,000 foreign contributors to the social security system, with significant contributions recorded.
