RTP – Um 'thriller' de bastidores

The selection of the new Board of Directors for RTP resembles a political thriller, filled with intrigue and conflicting interests. The process began with auditions for four competing pairs but is complicated by the current Independent General Council's (CGI) decision to oversee the selection despite impending changes to its own composition. Minister Leitão Amaro has expressed clear preferences and hinted at potential vetoes if the CGI's choices do not align with his expectations, undermining the CGI's authority. Additionally, Secretary-General Pedro Braumann, although without voting rights, is involved in the auditions and has suggested that the current selection process may be abandoned for a new one later. This situation raises concerns about transparency and the influence of external interests over the merit of the candidates and the future of RTP.
