Russia frees US citizen Stephen Hubbard, state media reports

Russia has released Stephen Hubbard, a US citizen imprisoned for allegedly fighting for Ukraine. President Putin confirmed his release during discussions with US envoy Steve Witkoff in St Petersburg. Hubbard, 72, was sentenced to nearly seven years in 2024 after being captured by Russian forces while serving in a defense unit in Izyum.
