Russia given first championships since Ukraine invasion

Moscow will host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships, marking the first major international sports event in Russia since the Ukraine invasion. The International Weightlifting Federation's decision follows the IOC's provisional lifting of the Russian Olympic Committee's suspension. This event will also serve as a qualifier for the 2032 Olympics. The Russian Weightlifting Federation expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing Russia's capability to host high-level competitions. Meanwhile, Ukraine has appealed against the IOC's decision to lift the suspension, and some Russian athletes have competed as neutrals in recent Olympic events.
