Russia has damaged more than 800 Ukrainian energy assets since September
Since September, Russia has conducted over 350 attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, damaging more than 800 pieces of equipment. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal highlighted the increasing pressure on the power system as winter approaches. Ukraine is enhancing protection for energy facilities and expanding generation capacity to mitigate the impact of these attacks. A second level of protection has been implemented for 235 transformers, with only one protected unit hit recently. Additionally, the government has approved nearly $20 million in loans from the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund to support projects for gas-engine power plants, aiming to add 60 megawatts to the power system. These initiatives are part of a strategy to decentralize electricity production.
