Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta says it will shut down following pressure from Kremlin

Novaya Gazeta, a critical Russian news outlet, announced it will cease operations due to increasing pressure from the government. The editorial team stated they have been forced to shut down after 30 years, citing revocation of their media license and eviction from their headquarters. They highlighted a coordinated campaign against them, including financial restrictions imposed by banks. Despite these challenges, they plan to publish one final issue. Independent journalists expressed support, noting Novaya Gazeta's significant contributions to journalism in Russia, including its investigations and awards. The closure also affects the museum dedicated to journalist Anna Politkovskaya, which opened in 2021.
