Russia returns, Germany withdraws: The controversy surrounding the FIFA U15 World Cup

Germany has declined to participate in the inaugural U15 World Cup, while Russia returns to international football after being excluded since 2022. The tournament, starting on October 24 in Baku, Azerbaijan, features nearly 1,000 matches with 189 teams. The German Football Association (DFB) cited concerns about exposing young players to professional pressures too early. Other countries, including 18 European nations and the USA, have also opted out, partly due to Russia's participation. FIFA aims to provide young talents with international experience, but the inclusion of Russia has sparked significant controversy.
