Russia returns, Germany withdraws: Controversy over FIFA U15 World Cup

Germany has declined to participate in the inaugural U15 World Cup, while Russia returns to international football after being excluded since 2022. The tournament, starting on October 24 in Baku, Azerbaijan, features nearly 1,000 matches with 189 teams. The German Football Association (DFB) cited concerns about exposing young players to professional pressures too early. Critics point to the case of Youssoufa Moukoko as a cautionary tale. A total of 22 federations, including 18 from Europe, have also opted out, partly due to the presence of Russia. FIFA aims to provide young talents with international experiences, despite the controversy surrounding Russia's participation.
