"Rzeczpospolita" has been investigating pedophilia in the Church for years. Many wrongs still await clarification.
Polish bishops have established a commission to investigate sexual abuse of minors by clergy, a process that began in 2019. The commission, led by historian Piotr Franaszek, aims to start functioning by spring 2027, with initial findings expected by 2029. Meanwhile, "Rzeczpospolita" has been investigating clergy sexual abuse since 2021, uncovering over 135 cases from the PRL era, involving more than 1100 victims. Their research prompted some church leaders to review archives and take action against living perpetrators. The commission's formation has reignited discussions around unresolved cases highlighted in previous publications.
