The court has ruled on the queen's son

Marius Borg Hoeiby, convicted of multiple crimes including rape, has had his house arrest lifted pending an appeal. The 29-year-old, son of Queen Mette-Marit, was sentenced to four years in prison but is appealing the decision. The court's ruling allows him to remain at the royal residence while awaiting a higher court's verification of the decision. Hoeiby has been under house arrest since July, where he could receive visitors and visit his mother. Prosecutors sought to extend his house arrest due to concerns about reoffending. The appeal hearing is scheduled for early 2027, and if the ruling is upheld, Hoeiby may remove his electronic monitoring device but must report to police regularly and undergo drug and alcohol testing.
