Cars of the Popes under one roof. Vatican showcases the papamobile

An exhibition featuring eight historic Mercedes-Benz vehicles used by popes is showcased near the Vatican Pinacoteca. The collection highlights the Vatican's collaboration with the German manufacturer since 1930, starting with a car for Pope Pius XI. Notable vehicles include a 1960 limousine for Pope John XXIII, a 1965 model for Pope Paul VI, and a 1980 Mercedes used by Pope John Paul II during pilgrimages. The display also features a modern papamobile used by Pope Francis. The vehicles reflect evolving safety standards and the papal need for proximity to the public, allowing popes to greet and bless the faithful during events.
