São Carlos postpones reopening to June 2028
The reopening of the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon has been postponed by approximately three months, now expected by the end of June 2028. This delay was announced by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, during a parliamentary hearing regarding the 2027 State Budget. The initial reopening was planned for spring 2028, but unforeseen issues in late August necessitated the delay. The government approved an additional funding of 17.5 million euros for the theatre's rehabilitation, as previous funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan only covered two phases of the renovation, totaling around 27 million euros. A further investment of 13.5 million euros is proposed for a third phase in 2027 to ensure the continuation of the theatre's modernization.
