Poland's neighbor announced universal military service. "The best way to avoid war"

Lithuania will implement universal military service starting in 2032, announced President Gitanas Nauseda. This change will eliminate the annual lottery for young men and aims to enhance national defense. The new system will increase the number of conscripts from 5,000 to 7,500, with mandatory training for all eligible young men. Women can still serve voluntarily. Lithuania plans to establish a comprehensive defense model by 2030, integrating national decisions with community readiness. Former NATO commander Philip M. Breedlove emphasized that preparation is key to avoiding war, highlighting the need for a nationwide defense approach.
