Russian satellite approaches within a few meters of device serving Ukraine

A Russian military satellite, Cosmos-2612, approached a European commercial satellite, ICEYE-X36, which supports Ukraine, raising concerns about potential espionage and interference. The incident began in late September when Cosmos-2612 altered its speed to match ICEYE-X36's orbit, coming within 100 meters of it. Experts express worries about the implications of such maneuvers, especially given Russia's history of positioning satellites near foreign ones. The U.S. Space Force noted that Russia has been testing interception capabilities with its satellites. The situation is being monitored closely, with potential for further unrequested approaches in the future.
