Schillerová: There will be enough time in the Chamber for the debate on changing the funding of public media
The Czech government plans to change the funding model for public media, shifting from a fee system to state budget contributions. This proposal has sparked opposition concerns about media independence and funding adequacy. Finance Minister Alena Schillerová emphasized the need for predictable funding and political protection for public media. The proposed budget allocations for Czech Television and Czech Radio are lower than current fee collections. Additionally, the end of a VAT exemption for public media is anticipated, which could impose significant tax burdens. Meanwhile, Carlos Santana is set to perform in Slavkov u Brna next July, and discussions are ongoing regarding potential military vehicle production in a former Volkswagen factory in Germany.
