Seat halts electric vehicle production in Martorell temporarily
Seat has halted production of electric vehicles at its Martorell plant due to a shortage of battery cells, affecting the Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID.Polo models. The stoppages, initially planned for Thursday and Friday, will extend into the weekend and Monday, potentially resulting in the loss of around 1,900 vehicles. The issue stems from supply problems with battery cells from PowerCo, a Volkswagen subsidiary. Despite the setbacks, the electric models have seen strong demand, with over 51,000 orders for the Cupra Raval since April. Meanwhile, Volkswagen is negotiating workforce adjustments in Germany amid economic challenges, including potential layoffs and plant closures.
