State Secret. Known ruling of military personnel accused
The trial of three Navy military personnel accused of violating state secrets regarding the NRP Mondego concludes today, with the verdict expected at 14:00. The Lisbon Central Criminal Court will determine whether to convict or acquit the accused, who allegedly disclosed confidential information after refusing to board the ship in March 2023. The prosecution argues that the defendants were aware that the documents they prepared contained classified information about the ship's operational limitations. In their defense, the lawyers claim the accusations are contradictory and lack evidence linking the defendants to the information leak. They presented an expert opinion stating that the military did not endanger national security and that their actions were justified as a right to seek professional advice.
