The Sejm rejected the PSL bill to abolish the two-term limit for local government authorities

In a recent vote, 213 members supported the amendment to the law, while 215 opposed it. The proposal to abolish term limits for local officials was put forward by the PSL party, arguing that residents should decide who leads their communities. The current law, established in 2018, limits mayors and city presidents to two five-year terms. PSL's leader, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, suggested that if the term limit is not lifted, they may propose similar restrictions for parliamentarians, emphasizing equal treatment. Opponents argue that term limits prevent the entrenchment of local power structures, while supporters believe it restricts voters' rights to re-elect trusted officials.
