The Sejm voted on easing abortion regulations

The Polish Sejm has passed a bill easing abortion laws, allowing partial decriminalization with women's consent and permitting abortion in cases of severe fetal defects. The vote saw 217 in favor and 213 against for the partial decriminalization, while 233 supported the fetal defect provision against 203 opposed. The proposals were introduced by leftist and centrist parties aiming to reverse previous constitutional court rulings that restricted abortion rights. The current law permits abortion only in cases threatening the woman's life or health, or following a crime, with severe fetal defects being banned since January 2021, leading to nationwide protests.
