The Sejm voted for an increase in the sugar fee. What does the president say about it?

The new regulations propose an increase in the fixed fee for sugary drinks and energy drinks, with significant hikes in charges for caffeine and taurine. The fee for drinks with up to 5 grams of sugar per 100 ml will rise from 50 to 70 groszy per liter, while the charge for each gram of sugar above this threshold will double. The maximum fee for a liter of beverage will increase to 1.80 zł. The fee for caffeine and taurine will see a tenfold increase, from 10 groszy to 1 zł per liter. The law aims to reduce the consumption of sugary and energy drinks to combat obesity and diabetes. Previously, President Karol Nawrocki vetoed a similar bill, arguing it would burden household budgets.
