The Sejm decided on the issue of two-term limits in local governments

On Thursday, the Polish Sejm rejected an amendment to the Electoral Code aimed at reversing changes made to local government terms by the United Right eight years ago. Out of 437 votes, 213 were in favor and 215 against, with nine abstentions. The vote showed a clear division: all PiS members opposed the repeal, while all PSL-Trzecia Droga members supported it. Most KO members voted for the repeal, but four opposed it. The Left was split, with 12 in favor and six against. The Confederation also showed division, with five in favor and seven against. The rejected proposal, submitted by PSL in July 2025, aimed to eliminate the two-term limit for mayors and allow candidates to run for both local and regional councils. The two-term limit was introduced in 2018 under the United Right government.
