Serbia's student movement wins parliamentary elections against populist leader Aleksandar Vucic

On October 25, a significant number of Serbians celebrated the opposition's victory in parliamentary elections, indicating a major political change. Aleksandar Vucic, the former president and leader of the ruling coalition, conceded defeat shortly after polls closed. The student-led opposition secured 140 out of 250 seats, achieving a clear majority, while Vucic's coalition obtained only 104 seats. Notably, major historical parties failed to meet the 3% threshold for representation, marking a potential end for the Socialist Party of Serbia in the Assembly after 36 years.
