Film sets that become tourist destinations: bonuses of up to 400,000 euros coming soon

Jet setting, known as cine-tourism in Italy, refers to traveling inspired by films and TV shows. According to Expedia Group's "Unpack" report, nearly one in five travelers globally has booked a trip after seeing a destination in a film or series. In Italy, the film "The Odyssey" by Christopher Nolan, released in July 2026, is expected to generate significant tourism revenue, particularly in Favignana. The Italian film and series tourism sector generates around 600 million euros annually, with millions of visits to filming locations. The Ministry of Tourism is promoting this trend through the initiative "Che spettacolo l’Italia!" which aims to turn film sets into tourist attractions, offering financial support for creating short films that highlight these locations. The project is experimental for one year, with details on funding yet to be disclosed. Minister Gianmarco Mazzi shared the inspiration behind the initiative, emphasizing its artistic value and potential long-term impact.
