PwC simulations indicate IRS refunds in 2027
In November, workers will see their salaries with a 50% reduction in tax withholding, returning to normal in December. This decision, announced by Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, applies to salaries paid between November 1 and 30, with a cap on income levels. The reduction aims to provide more disposable income, with estimates showing an increase of around 17.5 euros for single taxpayers earning 1,000 euros. However, concerns arise about potential tax liabilities in the following year due to this temporary measure. Former Finance Minister Mário Centeno criticized the approach, suggesting it resembles a loan rather than sound fiscal policy. Despite the temporary relief, most taxpayers are expected to receive refunds next year, although individual circumstances may vary.
