Sint-Laureins is allowed to build fewer social rental homes than originally planned: "Too little space"

The municipality of Sint-Laureins has received approval from Flanders to reduce its required social housing construction from 78 to 44 units by 2042 due to limited space. The Flemish government aims for 285 municipalities to build 56,000 social housing units to address shortages, with over 1 billion euros allocated for this purpose. Sint-Laureins requested a reduction, citing insufficient land for development, with only one viable plot available for a project of 20 homes, including 6 social units. The housing agency acknowledged the municipality's constraints, leading to the adjusted requirement.
