Scandal surrounding UPA. There is a clear declaration from the head of the Ukrainian IPN regarding exhumation
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Ałfiorow, affirmed ongoing collaboration with Poland regarding search and exhumation permits, emphasizing that history should not be politicized. He expressed confidence in specialist Szeremeta continuing this work despite political issues. Szeremeta, involved in recent searches for Polish victims, has been banned from Schengen countries due to a controversial decision by the Lviv Regional Council to declare 2027 as the year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). Ałfiorow noted that while he was surprised by this decision, he would not interfere politically. He highlighted improving relations with the Polish Institute of National Remembrance and ongoing discussions about reburials of Polish soldiers from 1939.
