They complain about "nuisance odors". "Who will buy me a house here now?"
Residents of Aleksandrów Kujawski have been facing unpleasant odors since a composting facility began operations in summer 2024. Complaints have surged, with over 300 reports filed regarding the persistent smell, particularly in spring and summer. Local authorities, including Mayor Arkadiusz Gralak, acknowledge the issue and suggest that technological improvements could mitigate the odors. The Wojewódzki Inspektorat Ochrony Środowiska has conducted multiple inspections, confirming odor complaints and issuing penalties to the facility. The city is also in a legal dispute with the composting company over transportation routes and demands for public apologies regarding misinformation about the source of the odors. The company denies the allegations, stating that inspections have not substantiated the claims.
