Slovakia reopens criminal case over fighter jet, air defense systems donation to Ukraine

Slovakia's Prosecutor General Maros Zilinka has reopened a criminal investigation into former Prime Minister Eduard Heger and former Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad regarding their decision to donate military equipment to Ukraine. The donation included 13 MiG-29 fighter jets and KUB air defense systems, approved by Heger’s caretaker government in March 2023. This move made Slovakia the first country to send fighter jets to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. The current government, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, has criticized the previous administration's military support to Ukraine and filed a complaint against Heger and Nad, accusing them of various offenses. Zilinka stated that the previous investigation was prematurely closed and emphasized the need for thorough evidence collection.
