SNS. The reinforcement of 1.5 billion is to pay debts

The Portuguese government has approved a €1.5 billion reinforcement for the National Health Service (SNS) to address debts and fund investments. Health Minister Ana Paula Martins emphasized that the funds will not only pay off debts but also support local health units and necessary acquisitions. She highlighted the importance of maintaining payment deadlines and ensuring efficiency within the SNS, especially with an increasing population. Despite the investment, the president of the Portuguese Association of Hospital Administrators noted that this funding may not resolve the budgetary imbalances faced by local health units, which are expected to continue accumulating debt by 2027.
